BC on the low

As I was scrolling though today’s blogs I stopped and read this one about birth control. I agree with what they say about birth control being a touchy subject. But on the other hand how many girls in high school are ready to be a mom? Not very many, I know when I was in high school many girls got pregnant and had children. I think it is fine for schools to promote safe sex and birth control, it better then not saying anything. Many others believe that maybe people are too young to have sex in high school, we were all there and we all know that most likely it will happen to most people. I also agree with how condom should be free or at least less expensive then they are. I know if you go to plan parenthood they offer free ones but I feel like if they want to promote safe sex they shouldn’t charge so much for condoms as they do. I also feel like a lot of parents don’t feel comfortable talking to their children about sex and being safe. Everyone should have someone they feel comfortable to talk to and hopefully eventually the world will be smarter and safer when it comes to sexual intercourse.

I agree with what they are doing with the new obligatory warning labels on sites that include sexually explicit information. What they consider sexually explicit is everything from sexual intercourse and masturbation to close-ups of fully clothed genital regions. I think it would really help out people from accidentally coming across pornographic images. Hopefully this will either help catch predators or with help reduce the number of crimes related to sexual online predators. These new requirements once again are a very smart decision on behalf of the Bush administration.  

I have really enjoyed this class this semester and I am glad I decided to take it. Over the course of the semester many people have asked me what the course is about and have seemed very interested in it. I would defiantly recommend this course to other communication majors. I have liked what we have learned and have actually learned a great deal. Thanks for a great semester!

Victor’s Little Secret!! shhhhhhhh

After watching lecture 33- Intellectual property I was interested in the Victor's Secret case in Kentucky so I decided to research it some more and see what my opinion would be. The couple, Victor and Cathy Moseley decided to open up a lingerie and adult novelty store in
Elizabethtown Kentucky. They named it Victor's Secret. Right off the bat they should have thought something of it because of the world known lingerie store
Victoria's Secret. Even though they are in a small town in
Kentucky people talk and eventually the right person would find out about the name. Only after two weeks of being open the lawyer of
Victoria's Secret contacted them and asked them nicely to please change their name because of how closely the two were related and they didn’t want any confusion of people. Victor and his wife then re named it Victor's Little Secret but
Victoria's secret was still not happy with that and brought them to court. While reading the article I came across this quote:"Once a [trademark] has been tarnished in consumers' minds by a negative association – with a porn shop, for example – the mental association, and therefore the dilution injury, is effectively permanent," Dellinger writes. "Only an injunction at the very outset of the lessening can avoid that problem."(http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/1112/p04s02-usju.html)In a way I see where they are coming from. If someone was online trying to buy some underwear from
Victoria's secret and came across this store they may be offended and decide to not purchase from them anymore. They obviously resolved the situation and
Victoria's Secret is doing great in sales like usual!

While reading your article “On Gay Porn” I have a few comments I would like to make. First off do you find it hard to be involved in homosexual pornography? I agree with what you said about how it can be an outlet for younger men who are still struggling with their sexuality. They can watch it and it makes them feel almost like they are not alone and there are more men out there like him. I also do believe it can spice up relationships. Sometime you sex life might get a little dull and it is something you can do it change it up. Another question I had was if you believe a straight man can do gay porn and still be straight. We watched a segment on this eariler in the semester and I find it hard to believe that if you are straight you can still get finish while having sex with a man. WHat does everyone else feel about this?? WHen you mention how there are bottoms and tops, are there any pay differences? I am sure the more experienced and more liked you are the better you get paid but does one position get paid more than another?? I think its very important how to promote the use of condoms. I think it should be required by all porn stars to used them because it is a very dangerous job and they should want to be safe.

Save the Children, but keep an eye on them too….

I searched under child pornography to find an article to write about for this blog and found one dealing with saving children from porn. I used the blog finder Technorati and I believe it was written by the deal. He is talking about how CNET news.com had an article about how to stop child pornography. They make a point to mention whether they think it is right or wrong to track people’s online activities. I can see how it would be invading on your privacy but I also think it might need to be done to try to end some of this child porn that is being made and sold. But then they make a good point saying how much people use the internet these days and how it would be very tedious to try to track down what every single person is doing every day. Many people do lots of their daily activities online such as emails, checking bank accounts and looking up news and online stores. Then they go to state imagine someone following you around all day to see what you are doing to try to strengthen some case against you. What do you all think about having investigators following you around for a few months to see if you watch what they are looking for in their case, would you like it?? I doubt it, but maybe that is what needs to be done for these sick people that think looking at and distributing child porn is an okay thing.

Pasties are a good thing

After reading aslsblog, I agree with what they say about how words like fuck and cunt can not be said on television. Even when people say them in public they are seen as disrespectful and people do not like to hear them. I feel like if the person is going to say it on the television they might as well let us here it, it is not like we don’t know what is being said. I agree that zoning laws can’t get rid of adult entertainment, but I think it is appropriate to have. There are just some places that you shouldn’t have adult establishments near, such as schools, churches and in family neighborhood areas. I don’t really know why you would want to put them in places like that, but they shouldn’t be!

 

I looked up the Barnes vs. Glen Theater and I think it was a good act to pass. I feel like the women should have to wear g strings and pasties so they are some what covered up because they are dancing and entertaining people. They are not a strip club so there is no reason for them to be entirely nude.

Even police officers get caught

I came across an article on the internet about an officer in Kentucky who was arrested for child pornography about a year ago. He had been suspended from the police department after they found out he was exposing himself to children! I feel like a lot of times when police officers do something wrong they are let of the hook but I am glad to hear that this man was suspended from his job just like a normal person would be treated.
Brian Leasor was arrested and charged with ownership and supplying of child pornography by the Kentucky State Police. When the police searched his house, they found material featuring sexual performances by a child on his computer. A day earlier, Leasor had been charged by another officer with offensive exposure on a school bus. It beats me why he would think he could expose certain things in public and especially on a school bus!
One quote I got from the article was, “It was a tremendous shock to myself and the officer that stopped him,” police Chief Ruben Gardner said. I would think it would be a shock to find out that one of your fellow workers was caught for such an awful act, especially being a police officer, a lot of younger citizens look up to them.

What’s next??!!

After reading tiny dancers blog today I decided to click on the link so see what it was all about. All I have to say is I really hope that it is a joke and would never be able to become a TV show. I think right now most all of the reality television shows are just stupid. This would be by far the worst. I agree with this post as why porn stars would need a TV show like this. I guess maybe if they are just getting started in the business and are not making good money yet, but other than that I don’t see a point for it. One comment tiny dancer made was that she thinks they would feel stupid getting on stage and being judged on their porn skills but after thinking about that I highly doubt they feel stupid because that is there job and what they do for a living. Sometimes I wonder what qualifications you must have to become a decent porn star. Would they turn down people because their boobs weren’t big enough or if they just weren’t skinny enough?? After watching this clip I really wonder what else reality TV could come up with!

When I looked up obscenity on-line I got "prurient, patently offensive and lacking in significant literary, artistic or political value. I think everyone has different views on obscenity. The Hicklin rule states "it is obscene if it has a tendency to deprave and corrupt those whose minds are open to such immoral influences and into whose hands it might fall." I think that is a pretty good saying of obscenity. If you your mind is open and thinks of things in such ways then you are going to think of more things as obscene than other people might. Anthony Comstock is well known for destroying thousands of books and pictures that had obscene images as well as rubber articles, playing cards and boxes of aphrodisiacs. Comstock formed the New York SSV. The SSV’s main goal was stop the corruption of youth within the city of New York by keeping obscene materials out of the hands of everyone, especially children. The SSV felt that children needed to be protected from obscenity because, as Anthony Comstock put it, “from infancy to maturity, the pathway of the child is beset with peculiar temptations to do evil.” The idea was to remove temptations from within the child’s grasp while they were maturing, so they would grow up to be proper. I think he was doing the right thing by taking all these steps to protect the children. I feel as children should not be exposed to obscenity at a young age.

Mr Watson did a BIG no no!!

Earlier in the week I was watching the news andthey began discussing the story about the teacher who was caught in the Galleria Mall parking lot with one of his students. While listening to this story it stated that the teacher Malcolm was previously asked to leave this same girl alone and was suspended from teaching for a few weeks in February. Many of the parents believe that the school did not take strong enough actions when this whole situation first came about and that is why it occurred again. I can agree with them because I feel like teachers have the job to be role-models to their students and to help their students learn useful information they will need in their lives. To have teachers hitting on students is just wrong especially when its their students and when the age difference is so big. If you think there is a connection there then you are going to have to wait until after you graduate. I don't understand why the teacher would put his job in risk and have the girl in his car! After reading the article is showed a few different sides of the story, some parents thought the whole situation was handled wrong and they should have been more careful from the first time they heard anything of this interaction with these two. Then some parents said he was the best teacher their children have ever had. He had been working at the school for a while and maybe something of this sort could have happened previously or if he wasn't caught something serious might have happened with the girl he was interacting with. I think it was a good move on firing him and hopefully the ex teacher and the student do not have any more contact with eachother!
